Compare what different water filters remove.
The water you drink is very important to your health.  A reverse osmosis (RO) system, the industry's
most sophisticated filtration technology, delivers the best water possible.  As water enters the
system, it flows through four stages of treatment to reduce dissolved solids, impurities, and
contaminants.  These four stages include:

5 MICRON PREFILTER - Large particles, such as silt, rust and scale, are removed by the 5
micron Prefilter.  This extends the life of your system and allows the semipermeable RO
membrane to attack smaller particles.
CARBON BLOCK PREFILTER - Removes chlorine and organics that can cause bad taste.
This filter meets NSF Standard 42.
RO MEMBRANE - The RO membrane allows water to pass through its microscopic pores.
Dissolved solids, too small to have been caught by the Prefilters, are removed from the water
and flushed to drain.  The RO membrane also removes large molecules such as fertilizer,
pesticides, herbicides, bacteria, viruses, colloidal silica, asbestos, cryptosporidium, giardia
cysts, etc.
FINAL POLISHING FILTER - Water flows from the membrane to a holding tank, which stores
the treated water until you turn on your faucet.  But before the water is dispensed, it flows
through one more stage of filtration.  An activated carbon filter removes any remaining tastes
and odors, delivering to you only the freshest, cleanest water possible.

This drinking water system will produce up to 10 gallons of treated water per day.  This water can be
used for drinking, making ice cubes, filling automobile batteries, cooking, filling steam irons, filling
humidifiers, preparing soups and sauces, to support low sodium diets, making juice, coffee and tea,
filling aquariums, watering plants, etc.  Less expensive filters do not provide the same level of
protection as an RO system.  To see what a Reverse Osmosis system will remove, download this
Filter Spectrum from GE Osmonics.  Reverse Osmosis (category on the far left) will remove a
significant percentage of each of the impurities listed on this spectrum.
